Hackensack Meridian Mountainside Medical Center is advancing the fight against breast cancer with the purchase and installation of MAMMOMAT Revelation, an innovative mammography system designed to overcome barriers to breast cancer detection and ProFound Artificial IntelligenceTM  for digital breast tomosynthesis, a deep-learning artificial intelligence software that rapidly and accurate identifies potential malignant lesions.

“We are excited to bring this breakthrough technology to our community. 3D mammography technology provides the quality images and patient experience to make early detection possible,” said Tim O’Brien, chief executive officer.

The advantage of wide-angle, next-generation 3D mammography

MAMMOMAT Revelation’s 50 degree image acquisition angle results in the widest depth resolution in the market. The result is clinical detail that helps deliver high-quality 3D images helping doctors make a more confident diagnosis.

High breast density can increase the risk of developing cancer. Revelation is the first mammography platform to provide automated breast density measurements during the exam, enabling immediate and personalized risk assessment, and allowing Mountainside Medical Center to provide supplemental imaging during the same appointment.

“Early detection is key when it comes to treating breast cancer,” said Frank Yuppa, M.D., medical director of imaging services at Mountainside Medical Center. “3D imaging makes it easier for doctors to see tumor sizes and reduces the need for patients to return for additional imaging to confirm a cancer diagnosis. This results in less patient anxiety and increased patient satisfaction.”

ProFound Artificial Intelligence for digital breast tomosynthesis

Digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) is a widely accepted advanced mammography technique for breast cancer screening. DBT study volumes are much larger than the standard 2D mammography, and Profound Artificial Intelligence addresses the complexities of reading DBT exams.  Research shows that ProFound AI provides improved analysis and allows radiologists to read DBT studies more efficiently and consistently.

“Integrating ProFound AI into our mammography program keeps our practice on the cutting edge and offers our patients the best chance at early detection and treatment,” said Dr. Yuppa. “Streamlining and standardizing the analysis of a study with Profound Artificial Intelligence ultimately will make our mammography program more efficient.”
