Why is staying hydrated important?

Hydration is more than just drinking water to quench thirst. Hydration plays a crucial role in many different body function. Proper hydration allows our bodies to regulate body temperature. It also keeps joints lubricated and helps deliver nutrients to cells. Drinking adequate water helps us sleep better, improves mood, fight infections, and can improve cognition.

When the body is dehydrated it present with many symptoms including dry mouth, weakness, lightheadedness, nausea, vomiting, muscle cramps, and even confusion. Internally, when the body does not have enough water, it causes the function of organs, cells, and tissues to fail. It can even lead to shock if the body is severely dehydrated. Many times by the time our bodies feel thirsty, we are already dehydrated.
