Integrative Geriatric Services

Serving the Complex Needs of Older Patients

The Integrative Geriatric Services at Mountainside Medical Center is a community-based inpatient resource devoted exclusively to the needs of seniors with behavioral disorders. Our program provides the finest quality, short-term intervention, assessment and treatment by geriatric specialists. Its goal is to stabilize each patient so they can safely return to their residence or nursing facility.

Dementia and other behavioral disorders that impede quality of life and create safety issues are becoming increasingly common among the elderly as longevity increases, the size of the senior citizen population grows and the incidence of illnesses that cause cognitive impairment continues to escalate.

The Mountainside Geriatric Psychiatry Program is designed to address the complex needs of older patients with behavioral issues, holistically treating all underlying medical conditions and determining whether medications that have been part of a patient’s regimen are actually causing or contributing to behavioral problems.

Comprehensive Multidisciplinary Care

While at Mountainside Medical Center patients receive:

  • Treatment for all underlying medical conditions
  • One-on-one and group therapy
  • Recreational and occupational therapy
  • A polypharmacological assessment (medication review)
  • Music therapy
  • Cognitive therapy
