Great Save - Hans Legaspi, RN

Here at Mountainside Medical Center, we strive to provide quality patient care. One of the many ways we’re able to do so is by advancing the technologies, techniques, and medications utilized throughout the facility.  On August 10, at 10:13 a.m. Hans Legaspi, RN, administered our Emergency Department’s first dose of Tenecteplase to a 41-year-old male exhibiting the signs and symptoms of a stroke.

Tenecteplase is a medication utilized to decrease mortality for patients with ST-elevation acute myocardial infarction otherwise known as STEMI. As an FDA-approved treatment, Tenecteplase can be used to treat conditions such as pulmonary embolism, central venous catheter clearance, and acute ischemic stroke. This treatment not only helped prevent further damage to the patient but also improved his chances of recovery.

Within 67 minutes of arrival at Mountainside, this patient was evaluated, diagnosed, treated, and transferred to our Neuroendovascular Suite for additional care. The Emergency department’s swift diagnosis and treatment of this patient’s stroke is a testament to their expertise and quick thinking that can make all the difference in emergent situations. Congratulations to the team on a great save!
