Mountainside Medical Group announced today that plastic surgeon Matthew S. Coons, M.D., FACS, has joined the practice.

Dr. Coons is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery. His interests also include hand surgery and reconstructive surgery with an emphasis on breast reconstruction.

Dr. Coons earned a Bachelor of Science degree with honors from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and his Doctor of Medicine degree from New York Medical College. Dr. Coons trained in general surgery at Maimonides Medical Center in New York and was a Research Fellow at Maimonides Medical Center and Downstate Medical Center.

After completing his general surgery residency, he trained in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of Chicago Hospitals with additional training at the Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York City as an Emanuel B. Kaplan Hand Fellow.
